Housing Discrimination Complaints Filed

Steve Ballmer, the ex CEO of Microsoft has spent $10M of his own money on a pet project called USAFacts. Their goal is to make the spending and revenue data for the US Government just as transparent as the data publicly traded companies need to file.

They make it very easy to see data on military, housing, crime, demographics and more. One data point we found relevant to the rental housing industry is the housing discrimination complaints that have been filed over the last 11 years.

The good news is there has been a downward trend over the last 10 or so years in the amount of housing discrimination complaints that have been filed with the local and state authorities. Hopefully, this trend continues and eventually goes to 0 across the board.

In 2005, there were 3,472 race discrimination complaints and this fell to 2,154 in 2016. Collectively, total housing discrimination complaints have fallen as well from 9,254 in 2005 to 8,385 in 2016.

  1. My son owns his own home. His ex girlfriend is living with him. They have had a falling out, she told him she would be out in 2 weeks. He already has people moving in to rent some of the rooms. Now she is saying she isn’t sure she will be out by the first. He really needs her to move out. What are his rights? and when the first of May gets here, can he have her move out??
